Both leash / collar training and reward training have been around for a very long time and they have proven their effectiveness over time. The type of training that is appropriate varies from dog to dog, and breed. It is crucial to remember that each breed has its own unique qualities, reinforced by hundreds of years of selective breeding.
Of course, personalities of individual dogs vary quite a bit, even in established breeds. You, as a dog owner, knows the best technique of dog training that works for you, so it is crucial to work with the coach you select to reach the goal of a dog that is prepared, obedient and respectful.
Leash and collar training is the top way to achieve many types of dog training, particularly in situations where the dog must have a high degree of reliability. For example, dogs that have an important job to do, such as search and rescue dogs, police dogs and guard dogs, generally a leash and collar training is highly beneficial.
When using leash and collar training, varying degrees of force can be used, this can vary from gentle prompts to stern corrections. The correction used, should be acceptable to the specific situation, because using the inappropriate amount of correction will prove to be ineffective.

For the dog to be acceptably trained, the handler must demonstrate the ability to put it in a position he or she will not desire to take. This manipulation is most easily and safely using the main tool of leash and collar training – the leash.
It is important for all would be Dog Trainer to understand that the leash is simply a tool. Even thou the leash is an essential tool in this type of training it is crucial for the dog trainer to eventually achieve the same results using any tool at hand.
If the only tools at hand are the body of the owner and his or her skill, the dog must still be made to obey. Creating a leader / follower relationship between the handler and the dog is still very essential and it is crucial to use the leash as a helpful tool and not a hindrance.When a dog is properly trained it will obey if the leash is present or not.
